enrique (quique) alcatena was born in
buenos aires, in 1957. his fascination with comics started in his childhood, and has never
flagged. he taught himself drawing, though he has never failed to pay his dues to the
artists who have remained his main influences and mentors to this day: carmine infantino,
gil kane, jack kirby, lucho olivera and barry windsor-smith, among many others.
although he has worked for american
publishers who specialize in superhero comics, his most characteristic ouvre belongs to
the field of fantasy, to which he brings his love for myth and legend. this type of
stories, sometimes scripted by himself, or by ricardo barreiro, michael chinn or robin
wood, have been published mainly in europe and south america. however, it is chiefly by
his collaborations with long-time partner eduardo mazzitelli that he is known.
enrique lives in buenos aires, with his wife and four
children. |
